My name is Erica Olfson and I am the Chief of Students at the Texas Hip and Knee Foundation. At my core, I'm a born and raised Texan from the DFW area. I spent 6 years in Nashville, TN, obtaining my Bachelor's in Science in Biology degree at Belmont University and my Master's in Biomedical Sciences at Vanderbilt University. I returned to Texas 2 years ago and I am now a third year medical student at the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU, pursuing my MD. My passion for orthopedics began in college when I suffered a femoral neck stress fracture, and has continued since then to only grow throughout my medical school career. I am so grateful to have gotten involved in THK as there are so many amazing clinical research opportunities, the mentorship from the faculty is such a gift, and my passion for orthopedics has grown in so many ways.

My name is Lachlan Anderson and I'm the Chief of Education at the Texas Hip and Knee Foundation. I am originally from California and went to undergrad at Boston College before moving to Texas for medical school. I am currently a third year MD student at the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU. I have a long-time passion for orthopedics that comes from several athletic orthopedic injuries and my experiences working in the field before attending medical school. I was drawn to THK for its incredibly unique and rewarding opportunities for orthopedic education, research, and mentorship.

My name is Timothy Kouo and I am the Chief of Research at the Texas Hip and Knee Foundation. I graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry. My interest in research began during my undergraduate years where I worked in two laboratories. Through these experiences, I developed a strong interest for data extraction, analysis, and manuscript writing. These skills have motivated me to stay actively involved in research throughout medical school. THK has given me an incredible opportunity to deepen my understanding of orthopedics through both research and educational sessions. I am excited to contribute meaningfully in this role and to grow alongside a group that fosters such a supportive and intellectually engaging environment. I look forward to learning more about orthopedic surgery through this truly outstanding team!

My name is Joe Mellberg, and I’m the Assistant Chief of Research at the Texas Hip and Knee Foundation. Although I moved frequently growing up, I came to Fort Worth for college, where I graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in biochemistry, and have called it home ever since. I am now a second-year medical student at the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU. My journey into medicine began on the Marin County Search and Rescue team, but it was watching family members and patients return to scoring the game-winning goal or tending their flowerbeds that convinced me orthopedics was the path for me. I joined THK to immerse myself in its collaborative orthopedic community. My favorite part of THK is the supportive environment that empowers students and pushes them to explore frontiers of orthopedic research.

My name is Carl Berghult, and I have the privilege of serving as the Assistant Chief of Education at the Texas Hip and Knee Foundation. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, I grew up as one of four boys and went on to attend Texas Christian University, where I majored in Biology. I am currently a medical student at the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU, working toward my goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. I’m enthusiastic about the growth and collaboration happening within the THK Foundation and am especially excited to contribute to the education department as it continues to expand. I look forward to helping students deepen their musculoskeletal knowledge and ultimately become more capable, confident physicians. My passion for orthopedic surgery stems from its powerful ability to restore function and meaningfully improve patients’ quality of life.
